Lecture Capture (Panopto) Section Overview
Getting Started for the 24/25 Academic Year Semester 2
If this is your first time using Panopto to record your lectures or the first time for this new academic year, we would advise using Panopto for Windows via Canvas. Details on how to do this can be found here
If you prefer to use the Panopto Desktop Client (which can be launched via the icon

1. Log into Canvas 2. Select your Course 3. Select Panopto Recordings from the left hand menu 4. Using the Open in Panopto icon (as shown below), launch Panopto, your course folder will now be created in Panopto

Embedding Recordings If you teach on multiple modules which use the same recording or prefer to embed the recordings into a page, we would highly recommend using the Panopto Plugin tool to embed, so that your recording inherits the permissions of the course and ensures that all students have access to the recording. Overview
In 2023 the University’s Stream Lecture Capture service was upgraded to a leading platform within the Higher Education sector called Panopto.
The new service facility was rolled out across the institution between May and September 2023.
Content from your https://stream.liv.ac.uk accounts has been migrated into your Panopto accounts and Canvas courses.
You can access course linked recordings via the Panopto Recordings button located in the left hand navigation bar, of your Canvas course. You can also access recordings of which you are the owner, by logging into Panopto and choosing My Folder from the left hand menu then Stream Migrations.
Top Tips
Are Students able to access your Panopto recordings?
This tip is aimed at users who you utilise the same recording on multiple courses or may embed their recordings within the pages of their courses.
To ensure that Students have access to these recordings, use the Panopto Plugin Tool to embed the recording.
This tool automatically inherits the permissions of the course and ensures that all Students then have access to the content.
