What is a Student Support Information Sheet (SSIS)?
A Student Support Information Sheet (SSIS) is a document that details your recommended reasonable adjustments for your studies during your time at university. This is set up with the university's Disability Advice and Guidance Team for students who have a disability, medical condition, or a specific learning difficulty.
With your consent, your SSIS will be shared with appropriate members of staff to ensure your approved support is implemented (such as large font exam papers, ensuring teaching locations are accessible, coursework deadline extensions, etc).
How do I get a SSIS/ How do I update my SSIS?
Please speak directly with the University's Disability Advice and Guidance Team to see if you are eligible for further support.
I have an SSIS that allows coursework deadline extensions, what must I do?
Your first step is to confirm with the module co-ordinator whether deadline extensions are possible on the assessment, and what date they are able to extend to (Up to a maximum of 7 days after the original deadline). Once confirmed, please submit your coursework deadline extension request using the link at the bottom of this page.
As per your SSIS, all coursework deadline extension requests must be submitted in advance of the original deadline (or the earliest opportunity thereafter).
We cannot guarantee that deadline extension requests submit after the original deadline will be accepted, and you may incur late penalties.
I have not submitted my work within my agreed extension period, can I submit an ELP?
Yes, however this is at your own risk. Assignments submitted beyond the agreed extension period will be subject to late penalties (starting from your extended deadline date), which will follow the Exemption from Late Penalty (ELP) procedure.
However, there are two important factors for you to consider; the limits of submission, and the requirements of ELPs:
Submission Limits
Assignments submitted after the earliest of the below will count as a non-submission:
- The module coordinator releasing feedback.
- 14 days after your extension date.
ELP Requirements
You must follow the ELP procedure, which requires:
- A sufficient reason for submitting late.
- This cannot be related to an existing condition already covered by your SSIS.
- Sufficient evidence to support your claim.
- Your SSIS cannot be used as sufficient evidence.
ELP claims that do not meet the necessary criteria outlined on the Exemption from Late Penalty page will be denied, and late penalties will be applied.
Can I get coursework deadline extensions without an SSIS?
No, only students who have a pre-authorised SSIS that includes coursework deadline extensions are eligible for deadline extensions. All other students must follow the Exemption from Late Penalty procedure.
Where can I find the form to request a coursework deadline extension authorised by my SSIS?
