Sometimes staff need to deliver the same material to two different cohorts, for example teaching a module to 1st years on one programme and the same module to a different group of 2nd years. Our advice is to chat this over with your school teams but there are a few options in Canvas that might be worth considering in your discussion.

Teaching two cohorts the same material sequentially

If you are going to be teaching at different times, so deliver one module in semester 1 and then the second module in semester 2, there are a few options.

You could just build the course for module 1 and then do a Course Copy to copy all of the course contents to module 2. This really depends on the building being finished on module 1, as if you do incremental course copies it tends to double up on anything that might have already been there (that's why it's no good for using this method for two simultaneous courses. An alternative to this could be to copy just the individual items you want between the courses (for example How to copy a module to another course).
An alternative is the 'Blueprint Course' feature. This has been piloted at the University and has proved to be useful in some instances. To arrange, would require support from IT Services to get set up. Here a course space is setup as a Blueprint 'Parent' course, this is then populated with content. Further courses are setup as Blueprint 'Child' courses, and these can be setup to automatically inherit any new content from the Parent course. In addition they can have additional material added to the Child courses, and some of the inherited content from the Parent can be set to be uneditable in the Child. This can be a very useful tool for enforcing a structure, content or assessment to other courses that other people may be delivering. In reality, they are quite tricky to setup with potential for data loss in the Child courses if erroneous changes are made. Another consideration is that no students can be enrolled in the Parent course, so it's not as simple as building and teaching in one space and for all changes to be reflected in the second space - it has to be a more thought-through approach. Things like Announcements also have to be made individually in the Child courses.

Teaching two cohorts the same material simultaneously

If you are teaching to two cohort simultaneously you should in the first instance want to talk to your school teams.

It might be that a new module can be created that brings the students together from their different programmes of study.
It is possible to create a 'pseudocourse' in Canvas. This is a brand new course space which can be configured to receive students from different programmes of study. Someone in your school with Departmental Admin access would be able to set this up under the support of IT services. You would need to discuss with your school team if this is the best approach and the impact this would have on other school processes such as extraction of grades.
Finally, a tool in Canvas that all instructors have access to which is called 'Cross-listing'. This allows you to copy the membership of one Canvas course into the enrolments of a second course. Any changes in enrolment is automatically reflected in the second course. Typically staff then unpublish the first course, and make changes in the second course to communicate to students that this is the Canvas space for their module (such as changing course name and code - something that IT Services can help with). During the setup there is potential to keep both 'sections' within the course separate so that for example they see different announcements, assessments, or discussion boards. Or you can treat them exactly as the same cohort. There are some pro's and con's of this approach, (some identified here Pros and Cons of Cross-listing), but it has been used by staff at the University successfully for a few years with support from IT Services. This works a bit like a pseudocourse but is something that an instructor can manage for themselves.
